Event & Commercial
2013 was a busy year for weddings and this booking was my last of the season. With the big day set for early October I was hopeful for good light and as many daylight hours as I could squeeze out of autumn!
All in one venue weddings are often a favourite for wedding photographers as it is a little easier to co-ordinate and lighter on the shoe leather! John and Kelsey’s ceremony and ensuing celebrations were all to be held at The Cleve, a Wellington venue that thankfully is only about fifteen minutes from home. This is a new venue to me as I had never shot a wedding there, or indeed been a guest at a Cleve wedding before. New venues are always exciting and I was keen to explore the grounds to pick out suitable shooting locations. After a quick reccie with the bride and groom a field was chosen for the couples shoot and the bride advised to bring along a set of wellies!
When the day arrived I spent most of the fun morning with Kelsey, her mum, Carol and her two lovely bridesmaids, whilst Dave, my assistant joined the groom for his preparation. Being in one venue I was able to flit between bride and groom and capture the mornings events from both points of view.
The Somerset sun gods were shining on us and just moments before the ceremony was due to start, the clouds parted and the sun beamed down on the pergola… a perfect setting for an alfresco wedding ceremony.
The bride looked stunning as she was accompanied down the lengthy red carpet by beaming dad, David and the groom couldn’t resist a sneaky peak as she approached. An emotional ceremony followed with plenty of happy tears.
After the ceremony and speeches I lead the happy couple over to the field just outside of the hotel’s grounds to grab the last of the autumn sunset. With some off camera lighting to add a bit of magic to the shoot, we ended up with some of my favourite images from 2013.
A raucous party followed with the couple’s impressive collective of friends and family tearing up the dance floor with enthusiasm and energy, that frankly left me feeling a little tired just watching and photographing them!
I would like to express my thanks not only to Kelsey and John for being such a great couple, but also to all the family and friends that made this wedding an absolute pleasure to be involved in.
Below is just a small selection from the day’s events.
